# Renting a car in Qatar

## Who this is for

Visitors and residents who want to hire a car by the day, week or month. Rental terms (minimum age, deposit, insurance, mileage) are set by each company and are not published by the airport or the Ministry of Interior, so this guide does not state them.

## Before you start

- A valid driving licence. Visitors and tourists with a valid international driving licence may drive in Qatar for up to six months from their entry date; residents should read the driving licence guide.
- Your passport or Qatar ID, and a payment card (companies set their own requirements: ask before you arrive).

## Steps

1. **Pick a company**: At Hamad International Airport the rental desks are numbered counters. The airport’s page lists the companies below; compare terms directly with each, since the airport does not publish prices or conditions.
2. **Book ahead or at the counter**: Each company has its own website and booking terms (linked from the airport page). Confirm opening hours with the company, because the airport page does not state them.
3. **Check the car and the paperwork**: Walk round the car with the agent and note any damage on the form before you leave. Read the insurance cover, fuel and mileage terms and what to do after an accident or breakdown.
4. **Return it and keep your receipt**: Return the car on time and with the agreed fuel level, and keep the closing receipt. Before you leave the country, check for traffic fines on the Ministry of Interior’s online service: the airport says unpaid fines can stop you leaving.

## Cost

Rental prices are set by each company; the airport and ministries do not publish them.
